“Hold On, We’re Going Home” (Drake)

Why the Arctic Monkeys?

Some bands get famous only because they are actually producing some great pieces of music and not, definitely not, for their looks. Aaah those unappealing teenage looks, right Alex? And then sometimes a girl comes along in a band’s life. Usually it turns out badly, but sometimes there is a stroke of genius. Eveyone knows it, behind the style of a man, there is usually a woman. Alexa Chung played this role for Alex Turner between ’08 and ’11. Or maybe it was Josh Homme, leader of the Queens of the Stone Age, producer of Humbug and friend of the band, who put Gomina in young Alex’s hair for the first time, transforming him instantaneously in a character from Grease.

The Arctic Monkeys in three key ideas

– Important members of the British rock rebirth of the early years of the new millenium, surprising everyone with their precocious talent for catchy riffs and dancing beats
– A rock sound which got heftier year after year, just like Alex Turner’s look which went from looking like a nice and slightly untidy English teenager to a full-on leather-jacket-wearing rock-star
– Quick-witted and philosophical lyrics which echoed the daily lives of a generation, from “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” to “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?”

Items to borrow from Alex’s wardrobe

– The comb and Gomina which he himself borrowed from John Travolta
– The rodeo shirt or the hawaian shirt to wear with an otherwise sober look
– Skinny jeans and chelsea boots
– The shiny buckle belt

– Black and white for a sober look
– Some touches of red or flowery prints for the rockabilly influence
– Washed indigo blue for the jean shirts
